The scarf's design draws from a source image that is an architectural detail on the exterior top side of the Frontenac subways station in Montreal.   Although not an architectural marvel, the location is key to Joe Rose’s story.  Joe was fatally stabbed on a Montreal transit bus just shortly before it arrived at this station.  Therefore, there is a movement trying to have a memorial to Joe Rose installed in the plaza behind this station.

The shades of cobalt and steel blue with the complex radiating geometry are a result of the contrast between the sky and the top features of the station.  The curvature of the station’s roof and steel rails, upon repetition, create a kaleidoscopic texture resembling a blossoming flower.

This scarf acknowledges a pivotal moment in Montreal LGBTQ history.  This tragedy galvanized this community.   With a unified voice, they were able to deliver their message.  More information about Joe’s story can be found here.
